Super Swamper
TSL BOGGER ReviewsIPB-ს სურათი
IPB-ს სურათი
Review of the Super Swamper TSL / Bogger (TSL = Three Stage Lug)

This is the mother of all street legal mud tires. If you're looking for a good mud tire, this is the one everyone talks about. Its huge lugs resemble the paddles of a riverboat and perform in much the same way propelling the vehicle forward through the mud. The three stage lugs and deep voids in the aggressive tread design extends down onto the sidewalls to add just that much more bite in the deeper mud. With 6, 8 or 10 plys in the ply rating (model dependant) this tire has a strong, puncture resistant, tear resistant sidewall, however tends be on the stiff side until well broken in.

The Bogger is the preferred tire for many rock crawlers who say the Bogger performs very well on the rock. Its seriously aggressive tread also allows it to perform well in snow and sand as well as the changing conditions of the wooded trails. One drawback to its tread design is the fact that it may not grip as well when lateral traction is needed as when the vehicle may be traveling sideways along a hill rather than up or down it. In this case the tread may act more as skis allowing the vehicle to slip sideways and the lack of sipes doesn't help either.

Interco Tire Corporation attempts to give this tire some street friendly attitude with minor success by breaking up the lug pattern to avoid a harmonic vibration but regardless the ride is quite rough, uneven and loud on paved road. Needless to say this tire is not one you want to commute to work every day with as it produces plenty of street noise and does not handle very well on pavement. However is is street legal, D.O.T. approved and actually does wear quite well, probably due to its harder compound.

For the weekend warrior, this is a great second set of tires for the weekend offroad event to be replaced by a set of all terrains for the Monday morning commute. Some offroaders prefer to mount a set of Boggers on the rear with a set of Super Swamper TSL SSRs on the front for a great combo. Available sizes range from the 30.9" up to the 44.1" in tread widths from 9.8" to 15.4" in various combinations. Available rim sizes in 15", 16" and a 17x10 model.

Manufacturers description of this tire:

Super Swamper TSL/Bogger
The Super Swamper TSL/BOGGER is built primarily for the professional mud bogger. The tire is versatile... D.O.T. approved and street legal... easy to modify for the cut, open, and pro stock classes. A new design for a new generation of competition performance.

SSR Series Super Swamper TSL Radial Tire Reviews
IPB-ს სურათი
Review of the SSR Series Super Swamper Radial TSL (TSL = Three Stage Lug)

The SSR Series Super Swamper Radial TSL is a combination of many good qualities that together make up an extremely good Offroad tire while improving on some of the poor traits a mud tire had on the paved roads. To start with the SSR builds on a proven tread pattern that Interco tires have been known for in their Super Swampers. The three stage lug design is very impressive in not only mud but also on the rocks, in deep snow, on loose grainy terrain and on the changing wooded trails. Its two center rows of alternating "v" shaped lugs incorporate sipes that allow the tire to grip not just on the rocks but better on wet roads and in icy conditions than typical mud terrain tires would.

Those center lugs also incorporate a "stepped" design that allows better release of mud and debris for better self cleaning as the wheel rotates around for another bite of whatever it is your propelling through.

Sidewalls are protected by a supplemental tread design that not only servers to reduce sidewall damage but also assists with finding grip in mud or across rocks. The SSR is a radial tire so on road handling is better than you might expect and it will not "flat spot" as a bias ply would on those cool nights after sitting still for a while. Sizes available up to 38" with plys ranging 6, 8, 10 model dependant.

Review of the BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX
The BFGoodrich Krawler is a monster of a Radial tire. BFGoodrich specifically designed this tire to excel in the world of rockcrawling, while still giving the driver performance in a variety of terrains, including on paved road. The Krawler's tread design is an aggressive, strong one with massive lugs, super-strong sidewalls, and an extra shoulder lip of rubber around the bead to help protect the rim and aid the tires resistance to popping off the bead. At low pressures, the sidewall and tread flexes readily and surprisingly well for such a massive tire, enveloping obstacles as the sidewalls bulge. Tread lugs extend way down the sidewall offering protect as well as helps to increase traction when sidewall bite can make the difference on rock and in mud. Where the BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX excels best is on the rocks. When aired down to the single digits, the chunky lugs of soft compound grip big time on all types of rocks from the knarly to the slick. Sharp rocks and wood spikes offer little problem as the Krawler resists tears and punctures to an impressive degree. In the mud the Krawler isn't at its best. The tread doesn't self clean as well as some of the other mud performers on the market unless generous amounts of throttled wheelspin are applied. On the wooded trails this tire does very well, getting good bite the varying conditions. In the sand the Krawler bites strong and will dig if too much throttle is applied although flotation is good. On the street, the BFGoodrich Krawlers perform better than most aggressive tires with a somewhat smooth ride. This is in part due to their construction as a radial tire and the staggered tread design. However they will still let you know they're down there as some lug slap will be noticed. As far as their look, the Krawler has a very aggressive appearance and will definitely turn heads. Sidewall Plys: 4 Nylon. Tread Plys: 4 Nylon, 2 Steel. Load Rating: C. Available sizes: 35x13.50R15/C, 37x12.50R17/C, 37x12.50R17/C

Review of the BF Goodrich® Mud-Terrain T/A® KM
The extremely popular BFGoodrich ® Mud-Terrain T/A® KM is the tire of choice for many offroaders who want decent off-road performance while maintaining good street manner. This radial MT with its semi-aggressive tread is a good choice for all-around use including dry loose dirt, light mud, sand, and light to moderate rock. Another benefit of the BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM is its longevity with a longer wear factor on the trail and on the street over most Mud Terrain tires. Be aware that the 3-ply sidewalls are somewhat vulnerable to sharp rocks when compared to MTs with tread designs in the sidewall that offer additional protection. Sizes available up to 37x12.50R18/D.

Bridgestone Dueler MT
Mud Terrain ReviewsIPB-ს სურათი
IPB-ს სურათი
Review of the Bridgestone Dueler MT Mud Terrain Tire

The Bridgestone Dueler MT is one of several "Dueler" branded tires produced by Bridgestone. Of the Duelers there are several names including dueler HT ( highway ) tires, Dueler AT ( all-terrain ) tires, Dueler REVO tires, and dueler MT ( Maximum Traction ) tires. The Dueler MT, is a Mud Terrain tire and Bridgestone's tire model geared towards more severe offroad conditions that demand aggressive tread design and stronger tread, bead and sidewall protection. Performance in all categories is above average when compared to other MT tires with the exception of sound levels on paved surfaces where the Dueler MT has been reported to be a much quieter Mud Terrain class tire and more like an All Terrain as far as road noise. Beyond that the Dueler MT departs from All Terrains. In the mud the Dueler MT has been reported to do well with a block-to-void ratio is similar to that of many competition Mud Terrain tires. With a tread depth for 32" and 33" Duelers at 5/8", the Dueler MT is able to move mud. Tread blocks of alternating scallops on the outer lugs work well for finding traction.

Bridgestone Dueler MT is at home on the rocks, thanks to the UNI-T®. What is the UNI-T®? UNI-T® is a combination of several elements including: the aggressive sidewall tread blocks extend down the sidewall, increasing the tire's grip and protecting its shoulder. The Dueler MT's have more vertical sidewalls, with less 'radial bulge' than normal kind of like a tall pair of hiking boots. There's raised rubber ridges near the rim and at the convex of the sidewall. The rubber compound is a special blend lending durability and grip. All these things together are Bridgestone's UNI-T® (Ultimate Network of Intelligent Tire) technologies: CO-CS®, Rim Guard, O-Bead®, Spiral Wrap®, and L.L.Carbon®. The sidewall protector rib gives added protection against off-road hazards.

Typically when a tire does well in mud and on the rock, that usually translates into good performance on the forest logging trails and with the Dueler MT, that is no exception and the Dueler MT does well in these offroad conditions especially when aired down into the teens for a softer ride and better traction. As always when airing down for offroad, be sure to air up to recommended pressures before driving on the paved surfaces and at higher speeds.

With snow, we have seen mixed reports mainly related to hard packed snow, which is very close to ice as far as conditions. With the Dueler MT (and just about any other tire without sipes), there is a lack of traction as where a tire with generous sipes will find better traction. Large lugs of a Mud Terrain type tires usually require something to bite into and the Dueler MT needs something to hook it's lugs around to find traction.

In the sand, the Dueler MT does about average and again will perform better if aired down into the teens for better flotation and better traction.

On the Street we have seen the Dueler M/T's perform better than expected for a MT tire. Thanks in part to the 5 Degree Noise Reduction®, the street manners are reported to be surprising good with positive handling, a quiet ride that is more attuned to what would be expected from an AT tire, decent braking and cornering characteristics have all been attributed to the Dueler MT.

Aesthetically speaking, the Bridgestone Dueler MT has a mildly aggressive appearance and comes in a choice of raised outline white letters or serrated black letters. The Dueler M/T also carries Bridgestone's 30-Day Buy & Try Guarantee.

Bridgestone Dueler Tires

Bridgestone Dueler HT - Geared towards highway use, these tires are also known for their aesthetic appeal as well as their enhanced performance. SUVs and light trucks often come equipped with the dueler ht tires, as these tires offer superior traction in slippery and wet conditions and guarantee a ride that is quiet despite its practical tread. These dueler tires are mainly used for on-road driving, but are rugged enough to be used in some off-road conditions.

Bridgestone Dueler AT - Designed as an all-terrain tire, these tires are geared toward the SUV or light truck driver who anticipates driving through both the most optimal and negative of conditions and any kind of weather and terrain in between. The dueler revo tire is simply one kind of all-terrain tire and like any at tire, executes peak performance when driving on-road or off-road. Its high-quality traction is ensured by its high-tech composition comprised of dual-layer tread, reinforced rubber, round design, and spiral wrap (allowing the tire to maintain as much of its original shape for as long as possible).

Bridgestone Dueler MT - Designed to provide "maximum traction", these tires are considered among the highest quality tires for vehicles that insist on driving through the grittiest terrain in the toughest weather conditions. Tread on this kind of tire is deep and wide, a great asset to gripping any surface. However, these dueler tires are not only functional, but easy on the eyes and ears as well. Smooth finishing features stylish brand name lettering, and the tread blocks minimize noise for a quieter ride. Of the Dueler tires, the Dueler MT tires are generally best for vehicles that encounter quite a bit of off-road driving.IPB-ს სურათი

Cooper Discoverer STT On / Offroad Tire Review
The Cooper Discoverer STT On / Offroad Mud Terrain tire is Cooper's answer to the offroad enthusiast's desire for an aggressive offroad tire that performs well in a variety of terrains while still behaving well on the road as a daily driver. Available in sizes up to 37", the Discoverer STT is a Light Truck class, load "D" radial and is a step up in offroad ability from the Cooper Discoverer S/T. The Discoverer STT has design features that allow it to compete with some of the more popular offroad tires on the market including deep voids with suction releasing channels for self-cleaning in mud, siped lugs for improved traction offroad as well as on the paved road, tread design extends far down the 3-ply sidewalls for greater sidewall protection and puncture resistance, rim flange protectors to help protect your rims, 3 ply carcass construction called TEK3 consisting of two radial polyester body plies and one angled polyester body ply, which adds up to a strong radial construction. The tread design is similar to other good performing offroad tires. Some of the Cooper Discoverer's highlights include a unique center tread area that is composed of non-directional, siped lugs and a leading edge that Cooper claims helps to eject stones. The outer shoulder lugs are also siped and larger for improved traction in mud and snow. Shoulder lugs are also notched in their sideway and aid to find traction in deep mud with sidewall bite. On the rocks the Cooper Discoverer STT does moderately well although a tougher, longer lasting rubber compound reduces traction on rocks to the point where experienced offroaders who have tested the tire on the rocks reported claimed they would slip sideways at times when they expected traction. However in rock applications the sipes and notched leading edge of the lugs help to provide extra bite, while the harder compound improves long-term wear on the road for an extended life of service. On the road the tires perform well with only a slight "hum" as you might find with any quality mud terrain tire on the road. Cornering feels stable and the load range allows this tire to be used for truck tire applications such as towing and hauling loads. Visually the Cooper Discoverer STT is impressive with a great sidewall profile and sharp, detailed design. A great all-round tire for the owner in need of both an offroad tire as well as a daily driver.

Review of the Dunlop Radial Mud Rover

The Dunlop Radial Mud Rover is kind of your "middle of the road" mud tire that does "ok" in various conditions. Its lugs offer decent mud traction with the help of large voids spaced out enough to assist with the self cleaning of mud and debris. Aired down the sidewalls flex good however are quite thin and vulnerable with a low ply rating and a lack of wrap around tread. In snow and sand this tire does about average when compare to other mud terrain tires. Highway manners are better than expected from a mud tire with less than moderate noise level however its lack of sipes in the lugs gives it poorer traction on wet or icy roads. Tread life is also better than average. Cost is on the low side of mud terrain tires. Available sizes up to 35".

Review of the General Grabber MT Mud Terrain Tire

A decent Mud Terrain tire for the price. That about sums it up for the General Grabber. The General Grabber MT is General Tire's solution to the offroad market for what they call "extremely difficult terrain". While we don't consider the General Grabber to be an "extreme" mud terrain tire when compared to the Mud Terrain tires on the market, it does hold it's own in off-road applications. The General Grabber MT is very similar to the average MT tire on the market in looks and performance. In the mud, it does decent while the tread is above it's half life. It's not the best in mud but a little better than average. The lack of sipes in the tread design does reduce it's potential traction somewhat on the road especially in wet weather driving although a lack of sipes is common in average MT tires. The tire does flex very well when aired down into the teens making it a good rock performer though the tire does lack sidewall protection but the 3 ply construction offers moderate protection from rocks and trail obstacles. The tire also does well in sand and snow. Overall when you look at the price and what you get for it, the General Grabber MT is a decent Mud Terrain tire for the price.

Green Diamond Tire Icelander MT
Mud Terrain ReviewsIPB-ს სურათი
IPB-ს სურათი
Review of the Green Diamond Icelander MT

The Green Diamond Icelander MT is not your average mud terrain tire. Several features that make up this unique tire set it apart from the rest of the MT tires. Manufactured in the U.S.A. by Green Diamond Tires, the Green Diamond Icelander uses technology invented in the harsh conditions of Iceland to enhance an otherwise great performing offroad tire. The most notable feature of this tire is a mixture of hard silicium carbide granules found in the tire tread. The silicium carbide granules are found from just a millimeter below the initial new surface veneer to the last bit of tread on the tire carcass. What does the hard silicium carbide granules do for traction? Quite a bit according to users of the tires. Most prominent, the carbide granules work like silent studs on all surfaces and terrains, increasing traction on otherwise slick surfaces such as ice, wet roads and rocks. For this reason tires with this technology are popular in the frigid winter conditions of Iceland. In the states, Green Diamond Tire produces remanufactured tire with this technology in many models to choose from in several popular sizes. The Green Diamond Icelander MT is a Mud Terrain tire with an aggressive directional tread pattern designed to propel the vehicle through the deep mud, over rough and rocky terrain. With 8 or 10 protective plys (model dependant), the Icelander performs very well in Mud with excellent self cleaning ability using multiple channels to move the mud away from the tire to find traction. Although it's best traction will be found in it's forward direction, the tire also does well in the reverse direction of it's direction tread design. Found down the center of the Icelanders tread design is a large stepped and staggered center void that helps to channel mud, water of whatever out through to it's voids running laterally towards the sides of the tire. The staggered pattern outer lugs prove quite effective in scooping and moving mud, earth and snow, which equals forward momentum.

The Icelander MT also provides excellent traction on rocks. When aired down for offroad, the Icelander wraps well around rocks as the hard silicium carbide granules found in the tire tread provide tiny sharp edges of grip in the rock surface. This feature is especially noticeable on wet rocks or where ice and snow may be present and affect offroad traction.

Most notable is the Icelander MT's performance on forested terrain trails where it excels in the variety of terrain obstacles found in these areas such as the their rocky terrain, mud, clay dirt, water crossings and under brush and moss of the forest trails.

In sand the Icelander provides decent floatation. When wheel spin is applied, the tread design will tend to dig as it is designed for excellent forward traction and self cleaning.

On the street the Icelander MT performs well and produces minimal road noise, even at highway speeds. Traction on the paved surface improves as the hard silicium carbide granules found in the tire tread become exposed and compliment the tire tread compound. As the tread compound wears, the hard silicium carbide granules are constantly renewed for the life of the tire.Green Diamond Tires are available through distributors across the U.S. and from green Diamond Tire themselves. Sizes are limited but the most popular sizes for general applications are available. For more information contact Green Diamond Tire or visit their website.

Review of the Goodyear® Wrangler MT/R
Goodyear's Wrangler MT/R evolved through research and development geared towards the rock crawling community, which helped Goodyear create one of the toughest all-around tires available on the market. Through patented compounds, the Wrangler MT/R holds up to serious abuse. Its aggressive tread pattern extends down onto the 3-ply sidewalls, providing excellent traction in a variety of terrains while resisting puncture from even the nastiest of razor rocks. Yet the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R radial is still well behaved on the street. It makes perfect sense that Jeep decided to make the Wrangler MT/R standard on the Jeep Rubicon. The Wrangler is available in sizes: LT245/75R16, LT285/75R16, 30x9.5R15C, 31x10.5R15C, 33x12.50R15LT, 32x11.50R15LT, 37x12.50-15 and even 40x13.50-17.

Manufacturers description of this tire:

As Tough As The Roads They Drive On.
It takes a tough tyre to master the roads in Asia. In fact, it takes a team of tyres. You see, Goodyear has developed an entire family of Wrangler tyres as unique as the roadways in Asia. Each Goodyear Wrangler is engineered with Goodyear's Trinuum Tyre Technology, offering an advanced combination of features for ultimate performance on smooth and rugged road conditions. So no matter where you drive in Asia, Goodyear has a Wrangler for you.

Built Strong To Last Long Trinuum Tyre Technology gives each Goodyear Wrangler its own unique design. They're all constructed to last long in Asian terrain. In fact, Goodyear Wranglers resist damage from jagged rocks, stones and sharp debris that may leave other tyres useless. Toyo Open Country
Mud Terrain ReviewsIPB-ს სურათი
IPB-ს სურათი
Toyo recently introduced its newest tire, the Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain (M/T) radial. While this tire isn't the traditional hardcore rockcrawling or extreme mud tire; it will survive the toughest backcountry challenges and perform well. The targeted market for the Open Country is those who need a comfortable, quiet, well mannered daily driven Mud Terrain tire that works as a weekend warrior on moderate to tough terrain, tackling serious trails. To accommodate a wide range of buyers, the Open Country M/T was packed with technology to make it capable of handling severe heat and frequently changing loads. It has an aggressive tread for traction and good looks, deep siping and an open-shoulder design for improved grip, and tread-block stabilizers. The tire uses a three-ply polyester casing, two wide steel belts, and two spiral-wound nylon cap plies, all of which make handling comfortable and predictable, on dirt or asphalt. In addition to its durable construction, the Open Country M/T uses an abrasion-resistant compound in the sidewall, shielding its most vulnerable area. This tire has an excellent load rating, possibly the highest available in a mud terrain: the 38x15.50x18LT tire has a 128 rating, meaning it can handle up to 3960 pounds per tire. It's also capable of a 99-mph top speed.IPB-ს სურათი

Yokohama Geolandar
M/T Mud Terrain ReviewsIPB-ს სურათი
IPB-ს სურათი
The Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ is breakthrough tire design goes far beyond ordinary mud/terrain tires by providing high performance on all types of terrain. The plus version of Yokohama 's M/T tire differs from the previous iteration due to engineering innovations in the tread, sidewalls and tire compound. The result is a tire that can plunge through mud, go all-out at high speeds on hard dirt, gravel roads, dunes, rocky terrain, across rivers and the most difficult of all, asphalt.

"We are so confident in our new Geolandar M/T+ that we are putting it to the ultimate test as the official tire of the grueling Protruck off-road race series," said Art Michalik, director, marketing communications for Yokohama Tire Corporation. "And while it can handle the demands of professional off-road racing, it also offers uncompromising on-road performance.”

Its off-road capabilities are enhanced by new larger shoulder buttresses with protectors that enhance performance, durability and visual impact. Additionally, new larger scoops from the shoulder blocks help the tread edges release mud and dirt. Every second shoulder lug is taper cut, with the protruding blocks that provide a stronger side "bite.

"An additional groove has been added within the blocks perpendicular to the directional pattern to improve traction, enhancing edge effect and improving both grip and directional stability, especially on dirt and gravel. Achieving the same objective, a wide double-step center groove features self-cleaning capabilities while enhancing water drainage on wet road surfaces.

The updated M/T+ gets a new compound, fine-tuned to enhance wear resistance and lengthen tire life. The modifications make for improved stability and comfort on pavement and greater resistance to chipping when off the beaten path. Additionally, two new protection bars have been added to the sidewall and the rim area to make the tire more resistant to cuts.

Extensive tests and computer simulations helped determine the 32-degree angle for the block patterns. At 32-degrees the pattern displays excellent mud expulsion, top-grade drainage characteristics and superb block rigidity during cornering.

The Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ is now available across the U.S. in most 15-, 16- and 17-inch diameters sizes; the full line will be available September 2004.

Yokohama Tire Corporation manufactures, markets and distributes a complete line of products for high performance, light truck, passenger car, commercial truck and bus, as well as off-the-road mining and construction applications. Yokohama supports the tire care and safety guidelines established by the Rubber Manufacturer's Association (RMA) and the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA). საქმე იმაშია, რომ ბოგერები ზომაში აშკარად იტყუებიან.
აბა შეიძლება 37-სა და 35-ს შორის ფაქტიურად სხვაობა არ იყოს სიმაღლეში?
